Requiem for the Dream of Father
Full-HD five-channel video, B&W, 22', 2017

Requiem for the Dream of Father is a five-chapter video work. Wearing a skull mask symbolizing my deceased father, I return to intimate sites where childhood dreams and memories intertwine. By re-enacting my father’s unruly experiences in his youth, I confront the relationship between my father and myself against the backdrop of Taiwan’s authoritarian past.
The film moves between dreams, memories, and reality, and is presented through a gauze-screen projection installation that places the image between clarity and obscurity. Each chapter begins with a voice-over in Taiwanese, whose intimate and hypnotic tone invites viewers to suspend consciousness and enter a space of memory and dreams. Through the invocation of my father’s life experiences and a direct encounter with his ghost, the work attempts to bring the past into the present, completing a mutual requiem between father and daughter.
